Making Your Own Candle Wicks

Candle making is a hobby that is quickly catching on. While most of the materials needed for making your own can be bought in a craft or arts supply store, the article written below offers instructions on how you can make your wicks.

Begin by dissolving two tablespoons of table salt and about four tablespoons of borax in one and a half cups of water. Once this is done, soak about a foot length of regular cotton kite string or twine in the finished solution. Leave it submerged for about fifteen minutes.

Next, hang the piece of string with a clothespin for five days to be sure that it is completely dry. After the prescribed period, use a paper clip to dip the twine in melted wax. Do this step about three or four times so that it will be completely coated. Hang it again to dry as before. If you plan on making a lot of candles, add several more feet of string. Cut these up into reasonable lengths and repeat the entire process. Store your finished wicks rolled up in a newspaper.
