Adding Colour and Scents When Making Candles
For most people who seriously pursue candle making, the best part of this hobby is personalising them with your own colours and scents. The latter is added once the wax has melted completely. The dye should be added just before pouring. The instructions on how it is done are written below.
Stir in about four tablespoons of stearine or stearic acid per pound of paraffin. The material helps to make the wax harder and the candle easier to remove from the mould. You can now add colouring. Candle dyes can come in liquid, block, or flake forms. If you intend to use the solid variety, use a potato peeler to cut down or shave off the pieces. Once that is done, proceed to stirring the dye into the melted wax. You can test the colour by dripping a few drops of wax onto a white plate and placing it in the freezer.
When you have gotten the right consistency and hue, add fragrance by shaving off a few pieces from a scent block. Or you can add 1/8 ounces of undiluted candle perfume for every pound of wax.
